Your readers recognize a piece of themselves in you, whether they want to acknowledge it or not.<br /><br />And it's a sign of humility that you are blaming yourself (your expectations) instead of life itself for disappointment. But on the other hand, if life always ends with death, I think it is reasonable to be disappointed with that. So I don't think there's anything wrong with your expectations.
